The Dental Crown Process
In this video, Dr. Rameek McNair details the process of getting a dental crown, from preparation to the final placement, in order to restore both function and aesthetics to your smile.
The process of getting a dental crown involves several key steps to ensure the health and functionality of your tooth. First, we administer local anesthesia to numb the area, ensuring you’re comfortable throughout the procedure. Next, we remove any old fillings, decay, or cavities from the tooth. Once the tooth is clean, we build it back up to strengthen its structure.
After preparing the tooth, we reshape and contour it to ensure it’s the correct shape for the crown. We then take an impression of your tooth, which is sent to a dental lab where your custom crown is fabricated. During this time, you’ll wear a temporary crown to protect the tooth and maintain the aesthetics of your smile.
When your permanent crown is ready, you’ll return for a final appointment. During this visit, we remove the temporary crown and carefully cement the permanent crown in place, completing the restoration of your tooth. This process not only restores the function of your tooth but also improves its appearance, contributing to a healthier and more aesthetically pleasing smile.
